He finally captured the Interim title at UFC 236 when he went the distance with Max Holloway. It was official and made clear, Poirer and Khabib was next.
Khabib Nurmagomedov is without a doubt and just plain clear the P4P fighter in the world today, you dont get to 27-0 and still look as dominant as ever, without a record like that. He was beaten everyone that has stood before him and in his last fight, completely destroyed Conor McGregor. Yes the build up and aftermath of fight got more attention and painted a picture for both Fighters (McGregor more of course) but it showed a side of Khabib, that he didnt want or wish to show the world. Khabib all in all is a professional, he doesn't talk trash or even take jabs at his upcoming opponents, He trains and fights, that's it.
What Makes this an interesting fight, Its that is an Old Skool fight in a way. You have the Champion vs the Challenger, no bad blood,no history, just a good old fashioned Who is the better Fighter at the end. Both Dustin and Khabib have praised each others abilities and fighting style, wishing each other the best in their fight camps and may the best man win. I like it, the fact that theirs no trash talk or tension between both make it an absolute must see fight. it's also kind of refreshing.
In the age of Social media, Fighter's have gone to many Lengths to get their name out there, Calling out other fighter's on their own Profiles and trying to get attention, sometimes for the wrong reason. I do get it, it's a platform for everyone to use and it does generate interest, be it a good or bad way, but it also can make a fight most intense, depending on what other fighter says about other. Why am I saying this? Well this fight doesn't need that element at all. Since Khabib/Dustin has been announced, Both fighters have been quite on their social media accounts, posting the occasional tweet or training update, but that's it. That's the way to keep it, Train Quite and in Silence.
The Underdog American that has been through the ringer of ups and downs, is now of the verge of Capturing the title that has eluded him for so long.
The Unbeaten Russian that has lay waste to every opponent that has stepped up to him and wants to remain on top of the mountain and cement his Legacy as the best of all time.
