Fight or Flight: Why Leon Is In Purgatory

Writer's picture: meepmmameepmma

The Welterweight divsion is the most dangerous it has been in along time and it is also the most interesting aswell. But for one man its seems more of a headache at the moment. Leon Edwards is in purgatory, he's in a fantastic place but nothing seems to be happening.

This is fight or flight for Leon, literally.

Leon Edwards is on a 8 fight win streak with notable wins over Cowboy Cerrone, Rafael Dos Anjos and Vicente Luque. Leon's last loss is to currently WW champion Karmau Usman. Since then Leon has completely changed his approach racking up wins and now is knocked on the door of a potential title shot, but why or what is stopped him?

Leon was suppose to compete earlier this year against former champion Tyron Woodley but due to the global crisis and flight restrictions, Leon had no choice but to bow out of the fight. Gilbert Burn's would replace him and go onto winning the fight and also be rewarded a potential title opportunity because of the win. How was Leon meant to feel about that? Pissed of I reckon.

With 3 months left of 2020 the year is nearly over and still no fight is even be made or talked about. Leon has said that he wants to compete before the year is over, but when will that be?

He has voiced that he wants Jorge Masvidal( for personal reasons too) or Colby Covington saying that a win over them or a top 4 opponent will launch him into the championship match, that's his main goal.

Fan favourite Stephen 'Wonderboy' Thompson has called out Leon to face him next in the octagon. Wonderboy is a well known name and former contender.

Another name that has been thrown forward has been Khamzat Chimaev who exploded onto the scene this year racking up 3 wins already in the UFC.

These are two fighters looking to fight, but Leon doesnt feel that either fight make sense to him, It's either top 4 or nothing.

So back to what I wrote at the top of the article, Leon is in purgatory at the moment, He is literally on the verge of a title shot and a another win would send him there but their is no opponent that he wants to fight. Jorge Masvidal and Colby Covington are in talks of facing each other, Gilbert Burn's wants his title fight and so does Leon. So what is next for him? He needs to fight and most importantly a date before the end of the year, if possible.

Stay Still you will get passed by and Leon needs to start moving.

Come on Leon. I believe in you.

Lace up those gloves and get at it.

Just one fight away from Gold.
