Dustin Poirer has come along way to get to where he is now, out of all the Fighter's in the UFC, Dustin has had the longest road to the top, it has not been easy and has had plenty of ups and downs and roadblocks, but now Poirer is on the verge of finally achieving his lifetime goal of becoming a World Champion. There is just one thing though, To final get to the top he will have to dethrone The one and Only: Khabib Nurmagomedov.
Poirer's journey in the UFC has been a wild and crazy ride, debuting back in 2011 as a Featherweight and now competing for the Lightweight World Title, Poirer has now a chance to finally capture a World Title and put his name down in the history books as one of the best to ever do it. After everything he has been through, in and out of the octagon, Capturing the title will be just the start of the Diamonds Reign as Champion. Poirer has faced the best fighters in the World and each of his performances have just seen him get better and better. He has been in some Wild fights inside the Octagon. His last 5 fights alone have been some of the wildest moments in the UFC. Fighting and winning over the Likes of Max Holloway, Eddie Alvarez, Anthony Pettis and we can not foget the War with Justin Gaejthe, (which is one of my favourite fights ever btw)
Poirer has fought the best and won, but At UFC 242 he goes up against, arguably the best fighter in the World and/or soon to be of all time : Khabib Nurmagomedov. The Russian has an unbelievable record of 27-0, and has gone through all his opponents with ease, Using his Wrestling, power and pressure to 'Maul' his opponents and win by decision or Submission. Can Poirer withstand Khabib's Constant pressure and keep this a standing battle because everyone knows, once Khabib gets a hold of you, that's it.
Can Poirer do what many have tried but never have accomplished, Can he beat Khabib for the Title and be the first to stop the Unbeaten Russian?
This weekend at UFC 242 Dustin Poirer isn't just fighting for the title, He's fighting for legacy, his name in the history books, a lifetime achievement.
Are we ready to see history in the making?
