The Welterweight divsion is in a stalemate at the moment, how did it get to this stage? With so many fighters claiming the right to fight for the title at the same time and positions in the rankings that basically mean a little nowadays. We all thought we had a clear picture awhile back, It was going to be Kamaru Usman defending his belt for the first time against Colby Covington. Well that fell apart fast. Contract disputes,Management and of course Money where mostly the cause for that falling through. So what now? who's next? This may surprise you but I have one name that actually might be next in line and will definitely not hesitate to go jump at an opponent for that title. That man's name is: Leon Edwards. Leon Edwards is on a absolute tear in the WW division at the moment. He is on a 8 fight win streak and his last loss is actually to Kamaru Usman. Since that loss Leon has completely changed his approach to the fight game and slowly climbed up the ranks in the divsion and now is knocking out that door. It took Leon time to get to where he is now,not known for calling out fighter's, just showing his skills in the octagon is where he wanted everyone to notice him. Defeating the liked of RDA, Cowboy Cerrone,Gunnar Nelson, Vincent Luque just to name a few, Leon is a in position that makes him eligible for a Title fight, as the divsion is a mess right now.
Leon is ranked 4th in the Divsion at the moment, which puts him in a great position. As just above him is Jorge Masvidal who is 3rd, Has chosen to Fight Nate Diaz instead of waiting for a title shot, as he originally wanted, at MSG in November. Tyron Woodley has called out for a rematch, but Usman shot that down immediately and Colby, well that looks unlikely now. With Other Fighters in the divsion already booked, Surely Leon is the clear next Contender right? It makes sense.
I would love to see Leon finally get his shot at the title and also avenge that loss he has on his record prior to his unbelievable win streak. It is actually a redemption story in a way, Leon lost to Usman, and Usman went on to capture the Title,There is no doubt that Leon wants that rematch with more on the line then avenging a loss, To win the World Title. It's a great story if this can Happen.
Leon Edwards is next in line for the WW title, Can he be the one that can actually save the divsion from all this drama and chaos at the moment?
