We have ourselves a very strange situation this weekend at UFC Fight Island 4. What that you may ask? Two fights will take place as Holly Holm will take on Irene Aldana and Germaine de Randamie fights Juila Peña, but here's the thing: Both matchs are technically for the no.1 Contender spot.
Can we have two No.1's contender's?

Either this was planned or was just fantastic timing. An unofficial Womens Bantamweight tournament for the no.1 contender spot. We have two former title contenders, a veteran and a rising star all competing for the same prize.

Germaine de Randamie was the last fighter to compete for the Bantamweight title against GOAT Amanda Nunes at UFC 245. GDR fought hard for 25 mins, but failed to capture the title. Now with a win this weekend it could launch her back to the top again for a rematch with the champ. GDR journey to the top has been rocky, winning the FW title, getting stripped of it, literally immediately, GDR is gunning for everything now and wants to add another title to her resume and this weekend is her chance to do so.
Julianna Peña wants a opportunity at a title shot and a win over GDR she believes would do so. After being away from MMA for two years to raise her child and pursue different carrers, Peńa returned in 2019 and won her first fight against former Flyweight champion Nico Montaño. Peña was meant to fight again in March of this year, but pulled out due to injury. Now she is back and more focused then ever. A win over GDR would set likely set her up for a title eliminator with the winner of Holm and Aldana or next challenger for the Nune's championship.
