What was built up a fight of the year and had the hype behind it delivered at UFC 253, but not the way you would think so. Israel Adesanya did what many viewed unlikely going Into this fight. He defended his title and defeated Paulo Costa in style. Israel just cemented himself as the true king of the MW divsion.
The fight itself didn't have the fireworks you would expect in a main event title fight or even the flashy entrances by Israel. It actually was a mediocre fight altogether up until the end.
Israel started off immediately by attacking the legs of Costa, trying to keep Costa at bay from the opening. Keep him at a distance and chop him down. Attack the base early would ground Costa later in the fight. Costa spent the round taunting Israel, a move that would cost him in the next round.
It wasn't long before the end of round two when Israel connected with a head kick that seemed to stumble Costa opening up a cut on the challenger. A few moments later Israel would shut down Costa with a snap of a hook that clipped Costa's head sending him down. Israel jumped finished with GnP with elbows. It wasn't long until the ref called it. The fight was over.
With a huge statement like that and a now two defences under him, Israel Adesanya has reached another level in MMA. He is truly one of a kind fighter. Congratulations Israel. What a performance.
