Where? When? No one knows but will it be made? Absolutely. A Rodtang vs Tenshin rematch will be a huge fight in Combat Sports especially because so much has changed since their first encounter. Rodtang has already called for a rematch already, Will he finally get his answer and maybe ... even revenge? Let me take you back to 2018, At Rise 125 the main event was set, Rodtang Jitmuangnon vs Tenshin Nasukawa under Kickboxing rules. It was already in favour of Tenshin, home crowd, home advantage what could go wrong? Now I'm not going to give you a round by round breakdown, let's just say, Tenshin looked good in the first two rounds,well the rest was all Rodtang. However the night didn't end there.
When it came to the final bell after the 5th round, The judge's decided the fight was a draw, giving confusion to how the bout was scored. An extra round was introduced to be given a clear winner, Rodtang's frustration came out in the beginning of the extra round as he stalked Tenshin from the opening bell. The Last minute of the round was chaotic as both Tenshin and Rodtang gave everything they had left in order to score the win.
After the extra round both fighters where completely exhausted the judges had their final score of the fight. What happened next was controversial even to this day. The judges scored the bout in favour of Tenshin, even his face when they called his name said it all. Rodtang didnt even acknowledge Tenshin after the fight. Fans called it a robbery. This wasn't on Tenshin, he didn't deserve the heat, it was the judge's. A great fight from two of the best in the world ruined.
Two years have passed since that match and both fighters have shown great strides since then, Rodtang is now ONE Championship Flyweight Muay Thai Champion, on a current 10 fight win streak and Tenshin is the current Rizin Featherweight's Champion among others aswell. So is it time that these two run it back? Give the fans the rematch they want and most importantly under a Promotion that will (might) judge it fairly?
I have no doubt that this fight will take place at one stage maybe even sometime later this year perhaps. I have a feeling that ONE Championship is host the fight, as Tenshin was there at their latest event A New Tomorrow and with Rodtang putting on a show stopping performance that night, hence why I wrote this article. This rematch has to happen and there is interest in it.
2020 is still a few days old but already has so much to offer fight wise this year.
Could we see the Ultimate rematch before Rodtang and Tenshin sometime this year?
